The PRIO Centre on Gender, Peace and Security (PRIO GPS Centre) is a resource hub for gender research at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO).

The Centre was established in 2015 and is led by Dr. Torunn L. Tryggestad. The Centre is organised around Core People and Associated People. Core People include researchers who specialise in gender research and administrative staff who manage the daily running of the Centre. Associated People are PRIO researchers who include gender in their research and receive funding from various sources. See more under ‘People’.

The Centre’s main activities include research, publishing, teaching and training. The Centre also provides policy advice through policy-oriented research presented in, for instance, the series of PRIO GPS Policy Briefs and directly to government agencies and ministries, such as the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Ministry of Defence.

The Centre organises regular conferences, seminars and workshops which provide a space for research and policy discussions among networks of national and international scholars, policymakers, non-governmental organisations, the media and students. The Centre also publishes the PRIO Gender, Peace and Security Update four times a year with the most recent news on relevant research, events and publications.

Key thematic areas of gender research at PRIO include:

  • Sexual and Gender-based Violence
  • Women, Peace and Security Agenda
  • Gender and Peace Mediation
  • Gender and Migration

Key teaching and training activities conducted by the Centre's Core People include:

  • the series of High-Level Seminars on Gender and Inclusive Mediation Processes; and
  • the Nordic Women Mediators (NWM).

The Centre receives core funding from the Section for Peace and Reconciliation at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
