Olsson's research focuses on the gendered dynamics of war, conflict resolution and women’s rights, and women, peace and security in national defense. She is engaged in promoting the effective use of research in decision-making, such as contributing to a series of Dialog Forums to support the Ministry for Foreign Affairs during Norway’s term in the UN Security Council and has acted as a coach to the Supreme Commander and to the Chief of Joint Operations in the Swedish Armed Forces.
