The inclusion of gender provisions in ceasefires: A guide for policy makers based on 77 ceasefires

This policy brief presents examples of how gender provisions can be incorporated into ceasefires. Each example is drawn from ceasefires catalogued by the Gender Provisions in Ceasefires (GPiC) Dataset. 1 The dataset includes 615 written ceasefires signed between 1989 and 2023, 77 of which contain gender provisions. Together, these cases illustrate how references to women and gender can be incorporated into ceasefires. 2 These examples are not intended to be prescriptive, but rather serve as examples that policymakers and ceasefire penholders can adapt to their own unique conflict contexts and stages of negotiations.
