On April 12, in connection with Norway's ongoing work to develop a new National Action Plan (NAP) for Women, Peace and Security (WPS), a roundtable meeting was organized for researchers with specialist expertise on topics of particular relevance to Norwegian foreign, defense, and security policy.

The roundtable was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoD), the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness, the Ministry of Culture and Equality, and the Ministry of Labor and Inclusion in collaboration with PRIO's Center on Gender, Peace and Security.

Several representatives from different research communities in Norway attended the roundtable. Amongst them the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI), the University of Oslo (UiO), as well as representatives from the Norwegian Centre for Conflict Resolution (NOREF), the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), and Politihøgskolen (the police college).

The purpose of the meeting was twofold: i) to expand the knowledge base as well as survey possible new themes and issues that the action plan should include; and ii) give concrete input on how established, central themes can be developed and handled in a new NAP. Based on established policy and research on WPS topics, both existing and new boundaries and spaces of opportunity of importance for Norwegian foreign, defense, and security policy were explored.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will launch the new NAP over the summer. The current NAP can be found here.
